The improvements were fabulous, but there were downsides to these combs. The biggest downside to me was that they needed to be used over a 30 blade or sometimes a ten, but when used over a 40 blade like we were always taught to do, the blade would shatter and over the longer blades the finish was "different" than we were used to getting.
THEN Wahl introduced us to an even BIGGER improvement in the snap on comb world: Stainless steel combs in full size lengths for their cordless trimmers, the Bravura, Arco, Chromado, etc. This new set of combs changed the way many of us groom forever. The super lightweight trimmers have enough power to do full grooms and with these snap on combs they are now versatile enough to become the main clippers in the salon.
Once in a while however, you will need "more power" and will be reaching for a full sized clipper. As a result you need two sets of combs right? WRONG! It turns out the new set of combs made for the 5 n 1 blades will work on an A-5 type blade after all! A 40 can be used safely under the 5 n1 combs. There is a video below that will show you how it works. The sound quality isn't all the great but you can get the idea.
This is the back and side view of a Wahl SS comb for an A-5 type blade. Notice the spring and side rails. This type of comb will not fit a 5 n 1 blade. It only works on a 10, 15 or 30 blade of the standard A5 type.
Making your job easier and less cluttered is definitely GROOMING SMARTER!
