| OK, so we all know
that fleas are a pest we could really do without, and yet MOST of us see
them quite regularly. I have often wondered WHY with products like
Frontline, Advantage, Program, Revolution and Capstar we are STILL seeing
so many fleas, and oftentimes on pets whose owners are TRYING to eliminate
them.
Before we start you need to know that there are several different types of pesticides available to groomers to help control Fleas. Pyrethrins, permethrins and Di-limonene being the top three products available in shampoo and dip forms. To the right will be further information on each type of these pesticides, how the products are derived and what they do. Read the fact sheets and decide for yourself if you want to use them or not. Your safety and the safety of the pets should ALWAYS come before the ability of your shop to kill pests! Personally I do not use any of them at all. I use plain old shampoo and I will discuss that technique with you as well. Many owners are unaware of the problems that fleas can cause on their pets. These problems include anemia, skin allergies, hair loss and tapeworms. I have also found that many vets will simply give a shot of steroids and not even LOOK to see if the pet has fleas first. By educating our pet owners we can help them in their battle to stop fleas and also help their pets be healthier and more comfortable. By starting at the top of the navigation bar to the right and going down you will be able to learn about the different products available and how they work, then make an educated decision on what you would like to use in your shop.
