| Competition Grooming....... |

| I realize that a lot of groomers
have no desire to enter the competition ring at tall but I have to tell
you that I LOVE to compete! I have always been a highly driven,
competitive person. Competing helps me grow as a groomer and satisfies the
competitive hunger that I have. Trophies, ribbons, money.. it's all nice, but the reason I compete is to get better as a groomer. I learn so much about the breeds every time I walk in the ring. I have learned more about coat care since beginning to compete than I ever thought I would need to know and still have more to learn. The top competitors in this field are some of the nicest most helpful people I have ever met and not once has a question gone unanswered or refused. I have made several really good friends because of competing and look forward to every show just to see my friends. Every show has different rules and policies and it is imperative that you read each shows rulebook through to make certain you are not doing something that would cause you to be disqualified, and to ensure you are placed in the proper group level for that show. Different shows have different requirements for coat length and this is always covered in the rules. Some shows have prep facilities, others do not, and this is a big problem sometimes for groomers. I always take a dryer that is usable in hotel rooms and a table to prep my dogs on just in case I need to do work in the room. Show catalogs tell you what the prep facility is like, but I still take no chances. I have been in facilities when the power was blown, too many people in the room trying to use the equipment or the equipment was just not working. I would rather play it safe than sorry and carry my own equipment with me. Now on to the list of what to bring with you!
