Clean out the pads. Either scissor flush with the pads or clipper them out with a ten blade for sensitive feet or a 40 for dogs that can tolerate it or that tend to mat easily. THEN, Comb all the hair down past the pads. Hold it all down past the foot.
With the hair held tightly in your hand, scissor the hair that extends past the foot pads using a curved pair of shears held at an angle so that the shear blade touches the pads slightly and curves outward.
Set your curved shears at about a 45 degree angle from the bottom of the bevel and round off the bevel from the outside.
As you can see, a properly beveled foot has NO Hair falling below the foot once completed.
This dog has a thin coat, but bevels nicely.
This is a dog with much more coat, but the same technique was used.
